Is the failure of WTO talks good news?
Greenpeace think so:
The failure of World Trade Organisation (WTO) talks in Cancun is the failure of big business to rule the world. The developing countries stood up to the powerful corporate interests represented by the EU, US and Japan. The talks failed because the rich tried to stitch up the trade rules. But this time the poorer nations resisted the arm-twisting, stood their ground and said 'no' to a bad deal. The collapse of the talks is a missed opportunity to solve huge global injustices like agricultural subsidies but will hopefully serve as a wake-up call to the rich countries and multinational businesses that they can no longer plunder the planet for profit alone. No deal is better than a bad deal.
I agree with them!
