GeekTool

Today I tried GeekTool for the first time (thanks to MacOsXHints.com), and it's very, very cool!

It's a control panel that allows to display various info over the desktop. It can display the end of your console.log, for example, but the great thing is that it can also display (and refresh) the result of any shell script (and hence of any AppleScript too, thanks to osascript). It's also possible to display a different icon depending on the result. So with a few lines of code (and thanks to curl), I now have on my desktop, for each of the servers I manage, a green flag that turns red when the server gets down.

Try it! It's very cool, and it's open source.
